ORBITEC began operations in 1988, led by Dr. Eric E. Rice, Mr. Ronald R. Teeter, and Mr. Thomas M. Crabb. Initially working in their homes, the three founders rapidly gathered talented engineering and science teams, several from the University of Wisconsin. Awarded nearly 300 contracts worth more than $170 million during its over 20 years in operation, ORBITEC has been profitable since its second year. Although headquartered in Madison, Wisconsin, it has additional facilities in Middleton and Baraboo, Wisconsin. ORBITEC’s successful method for creating and implementing new technologies has yielded consistent customer satisfaction, bolstered by its expert technical staff, facilities, and equipment. ORBITEC was awarded the two largest Small Business Innovation Research (“SBIR”) Phase III implementation contracts in NASA’s history for development of spaceflight hardware for the International Space Station.
