Madison's Discovery Assays and Services business unit develops and manufactures products and services used in the discovery of new pharmaceutical drugs, including biochemical and cell-based assays and compound screening services. In addition to its main facility on Charmany Drive, the company also leases additional space within the Research Park. It operates as a unit of Life Technologies, Cell Systems Division.

Life Technologies (NASDAQ: LIFE) is a global biotechnology tools company dedicated to improving the human condition. Company History
PanVera LLC was founded in 1992 by Ralph Kauten (CEO), Terry Sivesind and Dr. Tom Burke (CSO). Over 10 years, the company grew to approximately 125 employees and about $20M of revenue, utilizing only $4M of angel investment. PanVera was sold to Aurora Biosciences Corp in November 2000 / March 2001 for a reported $85M. When Aurora was acquired by Vertex, Vertex sold the Madison operations (PanVera) to Invitrogen Corp. in 2003 for $105M, and has operated as a subsidiary since then. In 2008 parent company Invitrogen Corporation and Applied Biosystems Inc merged to create Life Technologies Corporation.
